Call for Papers -- Finn Cycle Conference

The call for papers has just been announced for Fíanaigecht: The 2nd International Finn Cycle Conference, which will be held 11-12 August 2014 at the University of Glasgow.  Proposals of 300 words or less for papers of twenty-minutes in length in English, Gaelic, or Irish are due to conference organizers by 16 May 2014.

Call for Papers -- Gaelic Linguistics Conference

The call for papers has been announced for The Linguistics of the Gaelic Languages XVI, a conference that will be held 9-10 May 2014 at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.  Abstracts of around 200 words for twenty-minute papers on "any aspect of the linguistics of Gaelic languages" should be sent to the conference email address by 11 April 2014.  For more information on the conference, contact Professor David Stifter.

Irish Language Immersion Course -- Butte, Montana 2014

A one-week Irish Language Immersion Course, presented by the Friends of Irish Studies at the University of Montana and Traolach O'Riordain, will be held 19-26 July 2014 in Butte, Montana.  Courses for beginners as well as advanced students are on offer.  Tuition is $299, and lodgings are $25 per night.  For more information on the course, visit the Friends of Irish Studies website.

Gaeltacht Summer Awards 2014

Applications for the 2014 Gaeltacht Summer Awards, sponsored by the Ireland-United States Commission for Education Exchange, are now being accepted.  The grant, which covers tuition, room, and board, is open to people who meet the following criteria:
  • "Currently living / working in the U.S.
  • Enrolled in Irish language courses in the U.S. and, or have completed at least one year of Irish language instruction or have been teaching the Irish language in the U.S. for more than one year.
  • Be able to participate in the program in its entirety (two to six weeks in the Gaeltacht)."
People meeting these criteria can get the necessary application materials by sending their full name, the name of their home institution, and their address to this email.  Applications are due by 14 March 2014.

Call for Papers -- Stuttgart 2014

The call for papers has just been announced for a conference entitled "Gespräche zur keltologischen Forschung," which will be held 9-10 May 2014 at Universität Stuttgart.  Abstracts of 500 words or less are due in PDF format to conference organizers by 28 February 2014.  Presentations are limited to 30 minutes.

Online Irish Dictionary

A digital version of Liam S. Gogan's previously unpublished compliment to Fr. Dinneen's dictionary is now available online.  Anyone interested in the project can register for a free one-week trial or pay 30 Euro for indefinite access to the database.  The site also includes a brief biography of Gogan (1891-1979) and links to other items of interest.
