The Faculty of Foreign Languages and Cultures, Department of Classical Language Studies invites applications for the following fulltime position to be filled in summer semester 2017

Professorship (W2) in Celtic Studies

The candidate (m/f) will have to represent the subject area in research and teaching with the following profile:
We seek candidates who have proven their academic excellence in the area of Celtic Studies with a focus on medieval language and literature. Candidates should have excellent philological expertise in medieval Irish and/or Welsh and profound knowledge in linguistics and/or literary studies in the particular language. We require very good knowledge in the area of other medieval or modern Celtic languages and expect international academic activities in one or more of the areas mentioned above and an open-mindedness for contemporary topics in the area of Celtic Studies.
The future holder of the post will teach in the bachelor and master degree courses of the B.A. “History of Languages, Texts and Cultures”, B.A. “European Literatures” and the M.A. “Celtic Studies” as well as supervise PhD students. Hence, proven teaching experience covering the whole spectrum of the field is required. In addition to the teaching experience, the willingness to work together in these contexts and to actively participate in the ongoing development of the faculty and academic administration is expected.
Candidates are required to have experience with the successful and independent acquisition of externally-funded projects and be ready to participate actively in interdisciplinary research groups, i.e. the Forschungszentrum Deutscher Sprachatlas, the Department of Medieval German Language and Literature and the Department of English Language and Literature. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.
Conditions of employment based on § 61 and § 62 Hessisches Hochschulgesetz (HHG) are valid. A prerequisite is the German Habilitation or equivalents. The Philipps-Universität Marburg places great importance on the intensive mentoring of students and doctoral candidates; therefore, the regular presence of the teaching staff is required.
